Buy, buy, buy

Shopping seems to be something approaching a national sport. I’m no mall rat*, and I find shopping malls like Pentagon City, which I pass through to catch the Metro in the basement, rather overwhelming. But on the rare occasions I actually shop here, I do at least get some exercise because if I need two things, the stores that sell them are inevitably at opposite ends of the mall.

* For my overseas readers, the definition from the American Heritage Dictionary is “a person, especially a teenager or young adult, who frequently passes time wandering through shopping malls.”

Great shot – and how appropriate for the flag to be hanging there in the middle of that other great symbol of Americana, a mall…

Super shot, I’ll think to the good old high streets, or main street shops. Sadly they disappearing more and more everyday.

I agree with you, Mark. Between malls and Internet shopping, business is very hard for small stores. I find a lot to like about the structure of this mall, but I wish it were a temple to something other than unrestrained consumerism.
