The Cathedral Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, more familiarly known as Washington National Cathedral, was built between 1907 and 1990. At 206 meters above sea level, the central tower is the highest point in the District of Columbia. On March 31, 1968, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., preached his last Sunday sermon at the Cathedral, where his memorial service was held five days later.
